August 6th, 1988, 8:45 - 9:15 UT, seeing 5 (0 worst, 10 best), transparency 5. Central Meridian 115.23 - 122.54 degrees. Diameter of Mars: 17.96".

Astro-Physics 7" f/9 refractor on an Astro-Physics 706 German equatorial mount. Magnification 202x - 243x. Filters used include Yellow (W12), Orange (W23), light Red (W23A), Red (W25) Magenta (W30), Green (W58), Blue (W80A), and Violet (W47).

South is at the top, north at the bottom, preceding on the left, and following on the right.

The area around Solis Lacus well defined. Features along the northern and following limbs are very noticeable with W30 Magenta filter, but much less noticeable with a W23 Orange filter.

Noted a faint melt ring around the Polar Cap, was brought out best with the W30 filter.
