Astro-Physics 7.1" f/9 EDT refractor on homemade Dobsonian-style mount with equatorial platform. Magnification 172x - 230x with Baader binoviewer.

There were a number of zones and belts visible in the southern portion of the globe. This included the South Polar Region (SPR), the South South Temperate Zone (SSTZ), the South South Temperate Belt (SSTB), the South Temperate Zone (STZ), the South Temperate Belt (STB), the South Tropical Zone (STropZ), and the South Equatorial Belt (SEB). Both the SSTB and the STB had darker portions to them, and there appeared to be a faint dark curved shaped feature connecting them.

The SEB appeared to be bisected by a light colored rift, and the shadow of Europa was visible near the middle of the rift not far from the following (or right) limb of the globe. The shadow egressed the globe at approximately 3:23 UT. Europa became visible against the rift in the SEB at approximately 3:20 UT, and became brighter and more sharply defined as it approached the limb. It egressed the globe at approximately 3:52 UT. When the seeing settled down the Jovian moons appeared as disks and had subtle but noticeable differences in color. Ganymede is the largest and appeared light-medium yellow. Callisto is the smallest and appeared light gray in color. Io appeared white/light yellow/light orange, while Europa appeared white in color.

A faint Equatorial Band (EB) was visible in Equatorial Zone (EZ), and the EZ appeared dusky. Two loop festoons extended from the North Equatorial Belt (NEB) south and connected to the EB. Several red bars or rods were visible along the NEB north, the first two near the following limb separated by a white oval. A smaller white oval preceded the third red bar or rod.

The North Temperate Belt was prominent. In the southern portion of the North Polar Region (NPR) a dark bar or rod was noted, that appeared to have the same shape and size as the bars in the NEB. The northern portion of the NPR appeared blue-green in color.
